Win98 & WinXP

I have install Win98 in C:\Windows and WinXP Pro in another partition D:\WinXP ; and hence I can choose to boot by either of them.

I am now decide not to use Win98 anymore ; how can I remove it so that I can spare more space in my small harddisk( only 40 Gb ).

Please advise !

Partition Magic installed on your XP partition should allow you to merge C & D.

Don't use the merge function of partition magic. If you search you see lots of complaints by those who have done it and lost their data.

Assuming you installed XP after 98, you can just delete everything from the 98 partition and modify the boot.ini file on D:\ to not offer 98 as a boot option anymore.

If you want to make XP to be on drive C, you had better install XP again.

If you want to merge the two partitoins with Partition Magic, you will be taking a chance! Backup everything first.
You have a better chance if you just copy all the data from one partition to the other, delete the source partition and resize the destination partition.

My suggestion is to backup everything important, and re-install XP using as much of the HDD as you want.

Unless you don't want to re-install, this is the best advice. You won't even need Partition Magic. You can delete both partitions and create a new one the size of the drive, as a part of the XP installation.
