Ive noticed my system starts to really slow down after a period of time say 3-4 hours. I downloaded RamBooster and to my amazement i watch my RAM drop form 168MB down to 100 then to 60 and all the way down to 3MB of free RAM. Ive looked through all my settings and all appears to be normal. When I run the optimizer RamBoost will free up the RAM.

Anybody have any idea what would cause this and how i can stop it?

Run Windows 2000, W98 is stupid and doesn't know how to release memory back to the stack

A friend of mine had the same experience you are having with that Rambooster program. He went at boot up from 94% free resources to 68. He was using the paid for version. Talk about a waste of money. :frown:

Your memory leak is nothing to be alarm, it is just Win9x
sucking them up for the Disk Cache

Disk Cache is NOT Virtual Memory like a swap files it

But rather a disk cache Reserver a Portion of your RAM for "disk access"

The Problem is Microsoft (in their insane) wisdom didn't put a CAP on this disk cache! Thus, if you just copy/move/delete 600mb of mp3, file, or games - the disk cache can SWELL up to 50mb!!!!!

Since Win9X use about 32mb of Ram for itself, that leaves the "effective"
RAM in your system about: 46mb (128mb - 32mb -50mb)

Find Program like CacheMem to limit the disc cache!

I recommend using at most 10240 (10mb) for disk cache

* Warning, if you like to brag about How fast your Hardrive is, don't run this program, as more disc cache do improve the Sandra's HD score.

But if you like to run your Hardware/Software 100% full tilt, find this program

Your best bet is to go into msconfig and disable the items that are starting up with windows one at a time. Boot up after disabling the first one and see how it runs. keep disabling untill you find the one that is sucking up the memory.

If you do not find the culprit with this method then we'll have to look at your system settings

And delete RamBooster.
