Hi!
I've got a PII 333 with 3GB HD and 192 MB SDRAM. For few weeks,
it run very slowly. I've tryed defragmenting but it doesnt work better.

In fact, it seems to me that HD accesses are the pb, because of the following test:
when the machine is idle for 2 hours, with the CPU perf win utilities running, the max
value is 5-6%
when defragmenting, copying a file, or only rename or creating a folder, CPU perf
can reach 100%!!!
And when i want to shutdown the computer the screen stay dark, and never go away.

I have unchecked all task on startup with the msconfig utilities.

So.. have you an idea, or is there a soft wich could help me to find witch task causes
the pb. I've searched all around the net but i ve not fond any soft as there is in NT
(with percentage of cpu in front of task and process)

Thnaks for helping
Nico

How long has Win98 been installed on your machine? To be honest Win98 slows down over time anyway. Is the hard drive almost full? You have alot of ram for a 98 machine, but your swap file may be too small if the hard drive is full.

any program running in the background?

also, i think kurt454 is right as to a full hard drive, and the fact that Win98 does deteriorate over time. good luck.

Win98 is on the machine for 4 month. But it's right i've installed / uninstalled
a lot of things. And with a task spy, i didnt found any hidden task.
But i've found the solution, even if i dont really know what
was the problem...

When installing Win98, the machine had 2 HD. It began to run slowly since,
for another reason, i've unplugged the slave one. Replugging it make my PC
OK.
Dont ask me why... but it works now!

Thanks for help
