win98 shutdown fix,where can I find it?

I have a K6-2 450 system on a all in one amptron mobo with 64meg of ram. It's got a 135W power supply and was running at 50c temp. It will shut down in after a random amount of time (1 hr, 11/2 hrs) as if someone hit the power switch.

I seem to remember a patch or fix or something for a problem with win 98 doing that. Does it sound like that could be the problem? Do you have the link to the patch?

Thanks

The shutdown patch is for machines that hang when they get to the "Windows is now shutting down" screen. I think you have a different problem.

Just remembered something - I have a K6-2/550 and it used to be in a system with a 135W power supply - but I wanted to put my old original Voodoo card in there to see what would happen, and every time I ran the machine for a little while it would mysteriously reboot, and sometimes it wouldn't start at all. Switched it all out to a case with a 230W PS and it all works dandy, even with 4 hard drives, the Voodoo card, and an AGP TNT1.

So the point I'm trying to make is that it is possible (probable?) that your PS is overloaded or is failing.

I'm assuming you mean the CPU was running at 50c. That's a little high but I don't think that is the problem.

I'm leaning that way too. I've asked the customer to bring it in. Its a basic email only type of machine. Its not abused. It acts heat related. It happened tob me and I set the cpu from 500 to 450 and it lasted along time. But the customer Emailed me that it shut down 1 1/2 hrs after I left him.

I have asked the customer to bring it in.

I assume that this system is using Win98. You should install CPUidle or something similar to bring the temps down. This may cure the problem.
