WIN98 SE locks up during shutdown (p3v4x)

my system,
P3V4X mobo
P3 700mhz
64MB SDRAM (HYUNDAI)
32MB nvidia TNT2 M64 display card

i have a problem when shutting down my computer.It happens after i play counter strike and sim city 3000. I do not know why this is happens. After i quit from counter strike, i click shutdown and my computer just stop at the 'windows is shutting down' screen. I restarted my computer and windows autorun the scandisk and i read the scandisk log file, it is stated under the file system section :

File system
The free space was being reported incorrectly.
ScanDisk successfully fixed the free space count

what is causing it? I sent my computer for a check by the technician. he told me that my ram are not good because the contact is not good. is he telling the truth ?

it is very frustrating to not able to shut down my computer almost all the time. the funny thing is that my computer can shut down after i quit CS and then did some clicking through the windows, exploring C: or after i surf the web.

what is wrong with my computer ?It's about 2-3 months old only.

can any1 help ??????

Have you tried applying the two shutdown patches available at windowsupdate?

i have gone to the windows update page, but i do not know which r the 2 patch for shut down
pls guide me
