win98 + safely removing usb flash

how do u safely remove usb flash drives in win9x operating systems? there isn't a "Safely Remove Device" icon in the system tray like win2k/xp.

It's been a long time since I used win9x but my suggestion would be to find the drive in my computer right click on it and see if you can do an eject drive. I just tried it and it seemed to shut down my usb drive, but I am using Vista.

Maybe someone else will wonder in who can give you more than just a suggestion, good luck.

I still run Win98SE occasionally on an old laptop and I simply eject the drive by right clicking and then choosing the option from the menu like HermitGuy said.

Haven't had any problems so far.

Most of the USB sticks I use have a indicator light to show when they are powered on. In 2000, XP or 2003 when I tell windows to stop the stick for removal, the light goes off. In any 98 system that I have used wih a memory stick, that had the stop/eject option, it pops up and says the stick is safe to remove, but the power light never turns off on the stick. So I do not have much faith in ejecting sticks from a 98 system.

That said, I've not had issues either way, so far.
