i'm upgrading my computer today, and so i'm doing a format/clean install of windows. my question is, should i use windows backup utility? or should i just burn the stuff i need onto a cd and then transfer it back? stuff like documents, email etc. small enough for 1 cd.

is either way better/worse? please help me out! thanks

God, I love simple questions. If all you need to backup is Word documents, emails, and other media, just copy to a CD. Windows backup is more of an error recovery program. It does the job, but it is not necessary. When you reinstall, may I suggest 98Lite. I, along with many others, have found this program a very useful addition to our systems. Plus, it's free! and it can be undone easily. Best of luck.
As always,
