Win98 Problems, Help !

Dear folks,

I get an error when normally loading windows and i can't get anywhere.

While Initializing device VKD:
Windows Protection Error y

Then I tried reinstalling windows so i start the computer with a boot disk, then run windows 98 setup from the cd. I get to " Copying Files needed for windows setup ...", Copies some files and then it freezes. A few times i got that it couldn't find himem.sys but i know its there. The above errors are what i get now.
Any help is very much apreciated. Thanks
 
Pull out all cards but video then do a format (at command prompt type format c: /s /q)
When the format is complete proceed to install windows.
