Suppose I have two seperate hard drives, one with Windows 98 Op Sy and the other WinXP, and I connect them both to the IDE cable from which op system will it boot? I had win 98 and now I bought another HD and installed XP but I want to use both seperately as I dont want to format the windows 98 HD? How do I boot either from the Win98 drive or the XP drive.

Your best bet would be some type of boot manager application. Search for boot commander or boot manager.

Or - install a mobile rack - get two inner trays - put 98 in one and XP in the otjher, and then boot with which ever you like in a dedicated single boot fashion. Much neater and more reliable than software boot choosers.

Well, when I put both on the same HDD, I get a screen asking me which I wanna boot from. If I don't choose within 20 secs it defaults to the first in the list.

I'm thinking since you've got each on a diff drive, which one it boots from depends on your BIOS selection for boot order. If you wanna boot from XP, put it's drive first in the boot priority.
