WIN98 ON FLOPPY

Just like to know if it is possible to put win98 onto floppy disks and install onto a hard drive from these disks ? how many disks would it require?
Thanks

If I remember correctly, you can find a utility that formats floppies to 1.7mb (rather than 1.44). Then the .cab files should fit onto floppy. My win95 on floppy is about 14 disks, so I would assume that win98 would be about 40 or more.

This will not work if they increased the cab file size over 1.7 mb.

I guess you could.

Format one disk to be a system disk. Copy all of the files in the \win98\ directory form the install CD onto floppies (you may have to use disk spanning software).

Use the system disk to boot the machine. Partition and format the HD. Copy all of the files from the CD floppies to the HD (I used to put them in \windows\options\cabs\). Run SETUP.EXE form \windows\options\cabs\

It may work. You may need to make all of the floppies system. I can't remember if command.com loads completely into memory, or if needs to be on a drive after booting.

It would probably take 50-100 floppies, unless you rotated them as you copied files. It's easier to just temporarily install a CD-ROM... and faster.

Possible?, yes . . . the real question is: WHY?

The big why of my question was total curiosity as someone had told me they had done it and i did not beleive them thanks anyway.
