Whne I try to install all I get is a pop-up saying it needs 98SE or higher. I refuse to believe it just won't work on 98, so anyone know of a way around this?

The Microsoft WMP9 update site says it is for Win98 SE, ME and 2000. There is a separate version for XP.

You should update to Win 98 SE as it is a good upgrade for the first 98 release. Since it is a several years old version you should be able to buy 98 Se for a good discount especially over the internet.

As opposed those who know not what they are talking about Win ME is an excellent upgrade. It is very stable and runs great on one of my computers. I got it on sale at Office Depot for $47. Turned out to be an outstandingly good update over Win98 SE.

SE added what over the first release? Shared internet & the use of firewire as a network device? Anyway, I have XP, I just use Win98 more, and I'd like to get it installed despite MS's arbitrary cut-off.

And for later versions of DirectX (though I don't know for sure if Win98 FE can be upgraded, also).
