WIN98 network security ideas?

Using 98SE on a network at work, any security tips to keep others on the network out of my laptop, but still allow access to certain files?
 
as I have discovered... any advice? I have winxp available, but 98 does everything I need just fine, is it worth the effort to change everything over and learn a new os? Any downloadable security options? Just fishing right now, thanks for your input.
