win98 network probs....

I've just set up a network with two machines running win98. I want to be able to access the internet from one machine over the LAN from the other machine with the modem... is there any way to do this (ie how do I configure the IPX protocol... or am barking up the wrong tree)... or is this only possible with a cable/ADSL connection?

any help / suggestions appreciated.
thanx.

Are you using a dial-up modem or a broadband connection? Do a search on ICS (internet connection sharing). This is included with your WIN98 second edition CD. Doesn't take too long to setup. Different procedures for different methods of connections. Buyt my experiences with sharing my DSL connection are mixed. I got it working for a couple hours until I had to bring my network back up. For some reason ICS doesn't like netbeui. And my network won't recognize each other unless netbeui is up. Go figure? Now I disable netbeui, I can't get ICS to work again.🙁 Oh well, I've trying all sorts of things this whole day. Uninstalling/reinstalling ICS, double checking server and client settings, formating one computer. Trying dial up vs lan connection.

Before everything went haywire, I had a specific card for internet and a specific card for network. But I switched them because of slow performance. I will switch them back in the morning.

Just try ICS, you may get it working the first try. Or not.😱
