this is what's going on...
i formatted my computer (not this one) through the win98 setup cd. then it tells me it'll automatically restart...everything so far goes well.

*after restarting, computer asks me if i want to boot into hard drive or cd...of course i say cd cuz there's no more OS to boot into anyway. =P blue screen comes on, with the headline "microsoft windows 98 setup." i keep on pressing enter at all those "continue with setup" questions...then it says it'll perform a routine check on my comp. i press enter...then it says remove all floppies and press any key to restart comp. once i do that, it loops back to where i have that * up above...so basically i'm stuck in a circle. does anyone have any idea how i can break out of it and actually install the stupid thing?

btw, this isn't win98se

oh yea...i tried to look at some troubleshooting guides online...some guides say that if there is an antivirus program running it might screw up the installation process exactly at that point. how would i disable the antivirus program then if that's the case?

Remove the CD from the drive and boot from harddisk after the installation procedure asks you to restart.

Go to the BIOS screen when the computer boots up ... It should tell you how to get there as you boot up. Sometimes it is F1, sometimes 'del' ... I think Compaq's were F8 or F10... normally it is the delete key ... BIOS's are different, but there should be something you can disable about virus warning in the BIOS screen...

And of course, after the initial installation from the CD, remove the CD so it won't try to restart the setup process from the beginning.

Virus should be in the name somewhere.
I have an Award Bios...
Mine is under "Bios Features Setup".
It is called "Virus Warning" and "Detect Boot Virus By Trend"

I've always been amused that BIOS's consider the Windows installation as a virus since it messes with the boot sector.

Of course, your MB may not even have this option to find.

If you can't find this, you may want to start over .... Take out all extraneous cards, leaving only drives, video card, memory, processor, just what you need... Then formatting the HD again, reinstalling from the CD, then when it asks you to reboot your machine to continue the setup process, remove the CD and reboot ...

Format /mbr

might not be a bad thing to do either ... if you can get to a dos prompt at the C: drive.
