Made an interesting discovery yesterday while checking out my system in preperation for installing Linux... I've been running Hardware Sensors Monitor Pro for awhile now under Win 98SE with Idle Thermo Control enabled. Recently I modified the setting in the bios (as discussed around here) to enable ITC that way, but didn't turn it off on HMP. Since I wanted to get a feel for how my temps would be in Linux (without any software help), I disabled it...
And my temps went down a good 2-3C!
Now I know that HMP wasn't causing an increase in temperatures before the bios was changed (it was actually a few degree drop), and my temp went down a couple of degrees more after doing the bios thing. But it seems that the software implementation may have been holding back the bios Idle Control.
Anyone else have similar/differing experiences...?
