 I have an old 1998 IBM Aptiva, 300 mhz AMD K56, 128 meg RAM, CD-ROM drive and floppy drive, running Win 98. The computer starts, the Aptiva screen is displayed but Windows will not load. I have tried ctrl-alt-delete, no respose. I have unplugged mouse and modem, no response. I have checked all connections, inside and out, all seem seated and firm. I do not have a "boot disk" per say, what came with this is called a "recovery and diagnostics" disk, that will not start either. The only time I got a different screen was when I unplugged the keyboard, I got "memory good" and an error message that said " Ps2 keyboard has an error or is not connected". The computer of course is not under any kind of warrenty any more so it would be a waste of time and breath to try to contact IBM, it would be a waste even if it was under warrenty. This is such a simple computer compared to todays computers, I cannot understand what could have gone wrong as it has been sitting for nearly a year, and yes, it has been cleaned. Any one have any ideas on what I could try next? I am certainly no computer expert, but I do have some working knowledge if suggestions are told to me in plain english and not computer speak lol.
Hope someone can help and thank you very much. LadyGrey

Do you have any other software that would have come with the machine? Or a copy of Windows98 on CD?

The only other disks that came with the IBM bomb are an application disk and Lotus SmartSuit 97. I don't have a win98 disk at all. I do have a disk for winME would it be possible to upgrade? Thanks, LadyGrey
