extending support

They are currently sutdying on whether to supply fixes and patches up to 2006.

A snippet:
Support for Windows 98 and Windows 98 S.E. had been scheduled to expire Friday, and for Windows Millennium Edition on December 31. Under Monday's decision, the software giant would maintain paid phone support for the operating systems and review security threats to determine whether it will provide customers with security patches through June 30, 2006.

LET THEM DIE ALREADY!!!

Oh, the inhumanity of keeping them drugged up on life support, when all they really want to do is die, put their families out of misery

Confused

Yeah but what about all of these outdated PC's still in use in schools, and businesses, and the people who don't want to let go of their p2-300?

exactly. the hospitial my dad works at still uses comps with Pentium Pros in them. running 98. my College has labs labs full of machines running 98 amd Me (mostly P3 800s) all these comps still work fine for what they are used for. theres no reason to spend money to upgrade something that isnt broke

While no screamer, 2k or XP should run fine on P3 800's. Hell, I just put XP on my g/f's AMD 600, and while it's a tad slower, the headache saved by not using 98 is well worth it. As for P2's, well... not much one can say there.

yes but licencing 2K or Xp for like 500 comps isnt exactly cheap. i work for IT at my school. the comps dot actually have any problims. and seeing as they are used for WORD and Internet research. its not a big deal

About 20 percent of all Windows-based computers still run Windows 95 or 98, according to International Data Corp., a technology market research firm. Support for Windows 95 ended in 2001.
