Never run into this;
I installed W98se onto a fresh HD for a friend and everything runs fine BUT when we select to shut down, it act's like it;s going to but the thing re-starts instead.....wierd.

Anyone have this happen ??

Thanks

Try doing a search on the MS Online Knowledge base for shutdown problems. They have plenty of docs on Win 98/SE/ME shutdown issues. There are a couple of patches as well as other fixes for these type of problems.

I've seen this too, rebooting/shutting down a win9x system always seems to be a lottery (system hang, slow, maybe reboots, etc....) All I can say from experience is that it seems to be motherboard and/or power management related (I don't know the details) and that a reinstall sometimes helps.

Sorry I'm not much help and that it's all a bit vague but at least you know you're not the only one!

Here at work we have 3 Emachines computers that have the same problem. I've done some searching on the net and found that it's a power supply problem. It is very common with Emachines computers. Some places now carry a quality replacement power supply that will fit into the small Emachines cases. Most standard power supplies are way too big to fit.
