Okay, so I have three computers networked together through a LinkSys router.
One computer is a Windows 2000 print server; it has two printers hooked up to it, both shared completely (all access allowed to Everyone). There are no passwords anywhere on this machine for any user. It's network ID is "KAT."

The other two computers are running Windows 98 SE. They are set up with TCP/IP, client for microsoft networks, etc.

Everything is set up for DHCP through the router, everything has net access, everything seem to be working properly.

EXCEPT:

When I try to install the shared printers on the 98 machines, this happens:

I go to the Printers folder in Settings and click "add printer," select "network printer," and navigate to KAT in My Network Neighborhood. When I click KAT, a dialogue pops up that says something like:

blah blah enter a password to access this resource:
\\KAT\IPC$
Password: ______

No matter what I type in the password text box (even if I leave it blank), it says "incorrect password." I just CANNOT get to KAT's printers from these 98 machines. What do I need to do?

I tried searching the forum, but I couldn't find anything about my particular situation. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have user accounts with permissions set up on the Windows 2000 print server for the two Windows 98 computers? If not, you must do so to access it.

No I don't, but I do have the Everyone "user" set to allow everything on the shared printers.

But I could make new users for the 98 machines. Where would they log in though? The dialogues I get trying to access the Win2K machine from the 98's never have a space for user names, only passwords.

you can also just activate the guest account is you dont want any passwords, just remember, give the guest account the privlages you want and no more.

Yup. That's what I noticed as soon as I opened the Users folder in management... a big red circled X on the Guest acct. Doh! For some reason, I thought it was on by default. Oh well... two clicks later the whole thing was fixed.

Thanks a bunch everyone!
