My win2k server and win98 are connected over ethernet on the same workgroup. When win98 tries to access files on win2k server, it asks for a password. How do I stop that? Thanks

Set your password in "Client for MS Network" to the same as the Admin password for the server.

Or just create a user on the Win2K box with the same username as whatever you logon to the Win98 box as.

Like, if you logon to the 98 box as "blue" with the password "12345", create a user "blue" with that same password on the Win2K box, and assign whatever permissions you want to it.

this is probably gonna sound dumb -- but how do you add users on a 2k server? the last machine i had was win2k pro, which there was a users icon for in the control panel. i don't see it with win2k server.

thanks!

To add users in win2K server you open up active directory for users and workgroups, then select the users directory in the tree on the right. Choose Action --> Add --> User. Then you can type in the actual name of the person if you wish, and their logon name and password.

Thanks. I had to install active directory. That made me do DNS and all sorts of stuff. It ended up working in the long run, but now I got a letter from my ISP saying that they had requests to manage the dns coming from my server! Whoops! :) Can I be a domain handler for an intranet or something like that, and not have it propogate thru the internet?
