Win98 and Win2k file sharing

I have Win2k on my computer at my local univerisity and me and my roomates share files alot. Well, actually, they leech off of me. 🙂 But anyway, I set up and account for each of them but Win98 refuses to prompt the user for a login name. It only calls for a pw. I know that I can enable the guest account and put a password on that, but I want to know which one is getting things from me and one of the ways to do this is to give them each a separate account and I also don't want every person on campus trying to connect from the guest account. I know that you can do this with Win2K but 98 refuses to prompt you for a login name. My question is, if someone has Win98 and is trying to connect to a Win2K box, how do I configure the 98 machines so that I can input a login name and password?

Thanks alot

Go to the network control panel of 98. Change the Login method from "Windows Login" to "Client for MS Networks". This should give them a prompt after they reboot. Use the correct user: pass and you should be golden.

When logging on to a shared resource on Win NT or Win2k with Win9X the user name and the password in the networking password dialog box needs to be the same as the permission user name and password for Win2k. If you do this everything should work fine.
