Hello,

So we're in a big house and my friend downstairs (who has Win98) wants to be able to print to a statically configured HP LaserJet 4000. So far I've been able to network that same printer so far with two WinXP computers, elsewhere in the house.

Is there a way that I can add a static IP address as an available port so that the Win98 system can print to it? I couldn't find it anywhere under the printers folder but maybe through DOS?

any help is very much appreciated, thanks

in 98, you should be able to add a "network printer" just like in XP

have you tried that?

edit: you could also try configuring HP's "jetdirect" software which would allow you to print to HP's anywhere over the web

sohcrates~ thank you but yeah, i had to share the printer first on the closest machine. before i didn't have it shared "off" any of the other computers and only had it i sitting alone, as a statically configured printer, accessible only through its single IP address (so for the WinXP systems I had added the port as a single IP address, a feature that doesn't appear to be available in Win98).

so i shared it. and it worked.

thank you though!!! :)
