HI,

I have a windows 98 SE full edition and it is not an upgrade... How would I be able to install win 98 while keeping the win 95 intact. I would like to upgrade over it, with this win 98 SE full install.

please let me know.

I don't recall doing this before with my computers, but I THINK it will keep your current system intact. I know I went from win98 full to win98SE full, and i kept my system intact. Not really sure to tell you the truth.

you can always dual boot, but that would defeat the purpose.

Yes, the win98 SE cd is for computers without an OS and won't let me upgrade, so I need to know how to trick the current operating system to allow win98 SE cd to install it.

please help.
thanks

Try this, but remember I take NO responsibilty for loss of data or anything else for that matter. Back up all of your important files!!! This has been edited from a win95 to win95OSR2 setup, but I think it should work just the same.

Rename the file "WIN.COM" in the C:\WINDOWS directory. Then run setup on the WIN98 CD after booting to DOS. You can try booting from your CD if your machine supports it. This will upgrade your current version of Win95 to WIN98. Tip: Remove all entries from C:\windows\start menu\programs\startup before you upgrade. Of course, you will need your DOS CDROM drivers properly configured to read from your CDROM under DOS. Do not attempt this unless you are comfortable mucking around with system files. Finally, once you get 98 setup running, and you get to the screen where you specify which directory to install to, the default will not be C:\WINDOWS\. Manually change the install directory to C:\WINDOWS\ (or wherever your existing version of Win95 is) to upgrade your existing installation.

Good Luck!!!
