Win95 Network problem: won't let me set WINS to DHCP?

First, this is not my box. It's my gf's. I can't put up with Win95 anymore.

She's on a school network (on-campus). Her local network -does- work on her computer, but not the internet. Almost everything seems to be just fine -- no hardware conflicts, the net card and cable appear to be working fine (since the local network is fine), the net card is installed correctly in Windows, and the TCP/IP protocol is installed.

The one setting that doesn't seem to be right is WINS Configuration. I am 100% certain that it needs to be set to use DHCP for WINS. So, I set that. However, when I reboot, Windows has set it to "Disable WINS." It apparently will not keep it at DHCP.

Any help? Suggestions? Has anyone seen something similar?

Thanks in advance.

<< see if you can ping internet ip's, and if you can just have her comp. point to a couple of dns servers. >>

I did try that. Won't ping any internet IP's. And when I ping 127.0.0.1, it won't do that and it gives me error code 10091. Not good.
More help?
