Win7 will not dl & install .exe files

Have a Win7 machine that will not download and install any .exe files, even Adobe Reader. After downloading, it says the file contains a virus and has been deleted. I've ran Malwarebytes, and even tried the registry fix for this issue. Any other suggestions I can try?

Sounds like you have some malware that isn't getting caught. Might want to try some other proprams. Superantispyware works well for me. If you do more scans and still have issues, it could be a rootkit.
 
Twice when I had a corrupt registry / virus / hanging black screen, I just went into Control Panel and created a new User Account (using Safe Mode I think), then logging into the new one instead fixed my issue. Creating new user accounts is kind of fun and they can always be deleted, so it (and logging into Windows 7 using safe mode) might be fun "low risk" experiments to try. Another time using System Restore (in System Tools) to a date before a bug happened fixed my issue. I usually save stuff to C:\Saved (in Firefox) because many UAC levels won't let you save to certain directories or those folders have limited permissions. I don't like most AV software myself so I'd try and remove every last trace of it and reboot to see if that solves the issue as well. Just throwing in some random general ideas (can rootkits bypass all of them?).
 
I would also recommend a complete uninstall of AVG followed by their cleanup/removal tool. I would then install Avast, let it fully update, then immediately do a boot time scan.

I quit using AVG when I noticed the program itself becoming infected.

The ESET scanner is quite good and may eliminate the problem for you (if you checked all options aside from proxy). As CRCSUX suggested, Hitman Pro is also excellent for a one time run (unless you want to buy it). TDSSKiller.exe might also help locate the culprit. But even if you find and repair the problem using one of those tools, I would still swap to Avast.
 
Sweet, glad it is working now. I never run Windows Defender and another Antivirus at the same time. If you install MSE, it actually Disables Windows Defender for you.
