Forum search is broken so I don't know if it's been posted.

If your "Welcome" screen takes a long time to load when logging into Windows 7, check to see if you have a desktop background image enabled, or if it's just a solid color.

(Right click desktop / personalize)

If you're using a solid color, enable one of the background images.

Loads much faster now. (iknow, wtf?)

If you want to keep a solid background, just create a small solid color image and tile it.

This doesn't work for all welcome screen lag issues of course, but it's an easy thing to check.

Welcome screen "Lag"... ? I have to say I've never seen one.

The OS does some "chores" during the Welcome.

It timing thus varies according to the specdific installation.

No this is definitely a bug!
If you set your desktop wallpaper to a solid color instead of a picture there will be a long delay after you enter your username and password. If a picture is selected it goes in immediately.

If you don't want a picture just create a solid color picture in ms paint, ps, etc. and save it in your windows folder. Browse to it when specifying an image for your windows desktop. Problem solved. :)
