upgraded my laptop to an Intel i3 that came with Win8. gave old laptop (some old intel dual core) to sister.

I don't want win8 and want to keep Win7.

used sysprep /oobe /generalize command. it's suppose to remove system-specific data from the Windows installation.

used clonezilla to create image. put image onto i3 laptop. reboot.

now says "windows could not finish configuring the system. to attempt to resume configuration, it will restart computer.

went thru this about 5 times. same thing....could not finish configuring the system.

Any help in imaging to another machine?

I did not read past the title of these links but u may wana see if they apply to your situation

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981542

not familiar but i looked it up cause it sounds useful.. also i dont have win7

one site said sysprep is in the C:Windows\System32\sysprep dir of win7.. i assume that means it may differ from other versions, because it didn't use to be included by default? is it there? if so did you use it or a different version?

i dont know how to navigate msdn microsoft library website, but the winXP sysprep link came up on basic websearch for me. dunno why win7 doesn't come up for same article.. anyway theres also some basic limitations of sysprep listed there aswell tho dunno if it applies to u

i had that issue before too when i started syspreping windows 7 installations. if you added any virtual interfaces or devices (such as daemon tools, vmware workstation, etc) when you ran sysprep, it has a high chance to fail. there was a article awhile back i ran across mentioning it too.

another thing you have to remember is activation. is this an oem windows 7 or retail?
