QUESTION: How to regain Administrator status?

Somehow, no idea how, on my own personal private laptop, Windows 7 changed my user account type from Administrator to Guest.

It won't accept a change from Guest back to Administrator.

Because of this, my own private laptop won't allow me to do what I want to do, like create a folder in the Start menu etc.

So far these have been attempted but failed to fix it:
Control Panel / User Accounts,
Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management / Local Users and Groups
Windows Explorer / select folders / change Security setting of individual folders.

Guest is not an account type. Have you tried logging off and back in again, as the administrator account?

If all else fails, this would work.

In sim ilar situations, this works for me . . . right click on the file, take ownership.

Thanks to each of you.

For some weird reason it wouldn't allow me to take ownership in the normal way.

I ended up restoring the system from a backup image that was only 2 days old, and now all is well in the kingdom again.
