My GF's laptop is running Win7 Pro 32. She has a small 80GB harddrive that is partitioned around 30/50 for C/D, respectively.

The C: partition is about full while D: has a good 20-25GBs available.

Without having to format and reinstall, is there a way I can simply backup the D: partition, delete it, and then expand C: to give it the entire disk space?

Thanks.

You can, but dicking with partitions can be dangerous on a live system. I'd backup both partitions, then use Gparted to change them. I've never had a problem, but that doesn't mean you won't.

You shouldn't need to use Gparted or any 3rd party tools. Win7 can do a live partition resize.

Just go ahead with your plan GT. Once you've backed up the partition's contents, delete the partition in Disk Management and then select the C partition and the expansion option will become available.

Agree with ViRGE - been there - done that. No problem.
