win7 or xp for the laptop

I got a older netbook.

Dell mini 9
1.6ghz atom
2gb DDR ram
32gb SSD Run-Core

Its currently getting me 3 hours and running XP SP3. No issues other then the system hanging up once in a while. I've been told that win7 is a superior OS for netbooks if i wanted to stay with windows. I've heard this from like 15+ IT guys who seen and used my netbook. These guys might know their stuff when it comes to fixing servers and stuff but i dont trust them with computer specs. Most are either using the Thinkpad the company gives to them or they all bought alienware m11's

So is it that big of a difference for win7?

Atom plus regular HDD is too slow for Windows 7, but 2GB RAM, and an SSD drive like your system might be fine with it. Windows 7 is a slimmer OS compared to Vista, but definitely more demanding than XP.

i use win7 on my eeepc 1005ha. xp was faster, but the difference isnt much. you notice a little sluggishness but its not like it hangs and pauses all the time... and thats coming from a techie guy- anyone else who uses this netbook says its fast and they cant believe how little it costs. the features of win7 far outweigh the slightly less responsive gui.

i never thought a single core atom would run win7 this well, but its actually fast enough that im selling my dual core amd tablet pc. all i do is browse the net and watch some videos, and this netbooks does that just fine. ill save over $400 too!

i rock win7 ultimate on my last 1gb ATOM Z530 nokia booklet (non-3g) - it is quite fine with 4gb sdhc for readyboost. not sure what you guys are thinking. the hard drive is the biggest lag point imo. but i'm not throwing in an x-18m into a $130 (what i'd get if i sold it) netbook

I'm spoiled since I went to Win 7, the first Windows OS update that I've been excited about since 98 SE and I really mean it. I've been with the PC platform pretty much since it's inception.

I thought there was a Starter version of Win 7 for platforms like that that had a smaller footprint.

I hear that even the dual core Atom is still a slouch campared to even a dual core Celeron. I'm sure you get better battery life though.
