Win7 on Asus M32CD

I recently purchased an ASUS M32CD desktop with Windows 10, along with a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB

For Reference, this computer has an i5-6400, 8GB ram, integrated graphics and a 1tb HD by default

I have discovered that my taste for games is, shall we say... dated? Most of them do not play well with Windows 10 (SimGolf, Port Royale, haven't even tried Caesar III), So I attempted to install Windows 7 SP1.

I disabled fastboot and changed secure boot to "other OS" in UEFI so i could install.

Once I got it all booted up, it's been annoying to say the least. Computer didn't come with a support disk, and very few of the drivers were loaded. I grabbed what I could off the other HDD but Win10 drivers weren't all compatible. As such, I'm stuck with a partially functional system.

Lastly, I was able to get a network adapter working, however even with that Windows Update was never able to get past the "checking" stage (i have no proxies or odd settings).

Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm totally lost.

One option is to open the case and find the exact model of the motherboard. Then you should be able to go to Asus's support website and download the drivers.

Thanks for the suggestion. When I got home from work, I tried your suggestion. No dice.

Turns out it's a special board for this computer. Similar to, but not quite the same as their consumer offerings. Le Sigh.

YMMV
I would use programs to identify the components and go to the manufacturers sites to get drivers. Sometimes device manager can ID unknown (yellow marks) components by right clicking/ properties or find and update drivers. Try it.
You will probably need the newest versions of CPUZ from CPUID ton get the MOBO, chipset, southbridge, and video chipset. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

The last program I used for more information was Everest long ago, but there are many of them. My first choice for "malware free" free programs is www.bleepingcomputer.com followed by www.majorgeeks.com

Good luck,
Jim

What was the last OS you played these games on?

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to install your copy of Windows 7 onto a virtual machine with a couple gigs of RAM.

VMWare Workstation 12 Player is what I would recommend. The latest versions really walk you through the Windows install process, if you haven't done it before.

Here is a link:

Also, if you run into any issues, go into the BIOS of your Asus and make sure Virtualization is enabled, as I see it disabled more often than enabled from OEMs.
