Win7 automatically deletes pictures off thumb drive?!?!

I have windows set up so when I attach my camera it automatically downloads the files and deletes them on my camera. This is good.

-BUT- now when I plug in my usb drive windows must think it is a camera because it downloads the pictures and deletes them from my usb drive. Extremely frustrating...
(I never had this issue previously)

Any ideas on this guys?

Never trust automatic for that sort of thing. I never delete photos off my camera media until I am sure they are present for duty in two other drives on two computers.

As far as the computer is concerned, external media is external media regardless of whether or not it is a camera or a removable device.

My policy is to stay in control of my photography and thus avoid computer hiccups and quirks.

Further, I never attach my cameras to a computer. I remove the media and use a reader/writer. Keep control!
