Win7 64-bit and PC games

It's the damn copy-protection drivers that a bundled with games, that are required to run. They don't make 64-bit versions available, so it's a no-go on game installations.

How come in the many threads here on AT about Vista 64-bit games compatibility, that no-one has mentioned it before.

I sold a computer on craigslist with Win7 64-bit eval (clearly marked as such in the ad), and now they can't install some games on it.

Sigh.

I know there's an issue with Punkbuster not recognizing 7... But besides that, the only things that won't install are *very* old games with 16 bit code/installers. Those don't/won't run in 64 bit mode.

Can you tell us which games your customer is having trouble with?

Apparently the game is called "Infernal", and it gives an error about the copy-protection driver not found.

Quake 4 gives "library not found".

According to this, Infernal runs on Vista Home Premium 64-bit: link

this might be a solution. I'm having my customer try this now.

Edit: We found the same solution it looks like. Thanks.

Found this having to do with Quake4. Unsure whether the problem is with the installer, or running the actual game. Will find out from customer.

Ahh yes, Infernal and Tages. There's a reason why Western devs don't use Tages, and what you experienced is pretty much why.😛 It's the new Starforce.

He just called back, looks like the 64-bit Tages driver did the trick. Thanks. He had to leave for work this morning, and his kid was playing Infernal, so I didn't get to work with him to fix Quake4's installer yet.

Quake 4 should be fine; the last time I pulled it out I had no problems on my 64bit box. If there's an issue, I'd be surprised if it was 64bit related.
