Win2VNC is the coolest program!

Win2VNC

This program is very, very awesome. If you've got two computers, two monitors, and two mice and you'd like to share one mouse and one keyboard between them, there's no longer a need for a KVM switch! Just use Win2VNC (if you're going between two windows boxes, or a nix and a windows with the windows as the dominant box), X2vnc (if you're going between a Nix box and windows with the Nix box dominate), or X2X (if you're going between two nix boxes) to create two virtual desktops. It's very cool. 🙂

Your one keyboard will work for both machines depending on where the mouse is. If you want to switch from computer #1 to computer #2 and start doing things in there, just move your mouse over to the edge of the screen, depending on which one you have specified as the activation point, and your mouse will dissappear from screen #1 and magically appear on screen #2. 😀 You now have full mouse and keyboard control over the 2nd computer. Done with that one? No problem. Bring your mouse pointer back to the same edge it appeared on in machine #2 and it will disappear from there and return to Machine #1! It's very cool.

Friend of mine had it on his box and I thought it was so cool that I put it on mine. Man, does that ever make my life easier. 😀

awesome

I think this is even better than a KVM.. All the USB devices work with the computer they're plugged into. Nice.

I'll start using it when he adds the syskeys into the program.

Actually, you can get to the syskeys for right now just by right clicking on the little II icon in your systray. But they are marginally effective at best. 🙁

But yeah. Considering how far he's come with this program, I think those should be showing up soon enough.

Haven't yet tried this, but it sounds almost exactly like something called Synergy that I've been using for awhile. At one point I had four computers linked through Synergy and it worked great, one running WinXP, two running Win2K, and one running Mandrake 9.

Synergy even lets you copy/paste between computers, and if you copy/paste between Windows and nix-based OSes, it'll even automatically convert line breaks correctly for you. You can have Synergy syncronize the screensavers on all of the linked systems also, and if you have them password protected, entering the password on one will unlock all systems.

Dam that sounds cool!

so many versions of this thing, tight, real, ultra, etc.... everybody taking it to a different direction. any version which we can agree that we should not bother with?

TightVNC and most other "normal" VNCs are just remote access-type programs. The Win2VNC is more like a KVM replacement.

KVM is better for switching between game PC and work/business PC. Trying to VNC a game would be nightmarish on the FPS, if it worked at all.

isn't win2vnc and synergy more like a KM switch.... you still need a display for each pc you wish to control.

a KVM switch allows for 1 K, 1M, and 1 V for >1 PCs.

I don't understand, how is this any different than normal VNC or PCAnywhere? They've both been out a while, so that's why I don't think this proggy is all that spectacular. But maybe I'm missing something???

EDIT: Nevermind, I just went to the Synergy site. I understand now, and yeah, it's cool. I may have to get this. Anyone know if either of these programs support dual monitors? I have a dual monitor setup on one pc, and a regular single monitor on the other pc. When I move the cursor to the edge of monitor 1 will it go to my second monitor or will it go to the second pc?

Give it a try. I don't have anything to test your idea with. 🙁
