Win2kPro Sp2. Computer doesn't shut down now.

Hi all,

I'm on Windows 2000 Pro SP2.
Yesterday I had IRQ conflicts with 2 of my host adapters. So I changed my computer from APCI(sp?) to Standard PC and it reassigned my IRQ's to my needs.
But now, whenever i shutdown, instead of my computer automatically shutting down and turning off completely.

I am stuck at the IT IS NOW SAFE TO TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER screen. The power button in the front doesn't respond. I have to go to the back of the comp and switch it off.

Anybody know how i can fix this?

Thanks

Depending on your system setup, you may need to enable the NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node.

goto SYSTEM\Device Manager

highlight Computer

goto View\Show hidden devices
NT Apm\Legacy Support\NT Apm Legacy Inteface Node\Properties
and click Enable Device

Reboot for to try it.

If it doesn't help, just go back and disable.

I hope you had a REALLY good reason for disabling ACPI....and.. there are VERY few....

at any rate, ACPI not only controls the irq's and such but also all power management and hence powering off the machine. You can enable APM support and it will probably turn your system off for you, but I would highly suggest re-enabling ACPI... especially since ACPI can share IRQ's without problems

hi,

Ok i switched my system back to ACPI. I am trying to seperate my Promise IDE controller and my Adaptec 2940 scsi card from IRQ11.
Under Standard PC, it seperated it.

But i switched back, and now they are both sharing the irq again. how do you change the IRQ setting ?

I went to the properties of each device, on the RESOURCE tab, changing the settings is all greyed out.
Please help.

Thanks.

P.S. LiLithTecH, When i went and did your steps, the only thing that kept showing up is Standard PC, none of the stuff you listed was there. Even though i selected Show Hidden Devices

U dont change it from sharing, you leave it alone... thats perfectly normal... its just vectoring it the irq 11 to a software interrupt... and the software irq will be different. Why do you want it seperated?

i want the irq's seperated because when i have the Promise u66 card plugged in, my scsi devices do not work. and with the promise card out, SCSI devices/card works fine.
i've tried switching pci slots and such, and just came to the conclusion that i want to give the promise card its own irq.

BTW, in STANDARD PC mode, each card got its own IRQ, and both devices worked great, but switched it back to ACPI because from your suggestion. and now i'm back to square 1.

What should i do?

Thanks

Ok, this is a bunch of info that we needed from the beginning...it sounds like one of the cards is acting like it not pci2.x compliant.... I'm pretty sure they both are though. Have you tried updating the bios on both the 2940 and the promise card? that may help... While you at it update the motherboards bios too if you haven't already.

In order for acpi to work properly, all cards must be compliant, if they are not, then standard PC may be the answer...

Also, as an fyi, The only recommended way of switching from acpi to standard mode is to reformat the machine and pick standard PC during the setup...

In order to troubleshoot it, what kind of motherboard do you have and what other cards are in there?
