Win2kPro & Games (Is it a combo that works?)

I had asked for advice on going with ME or Win200pro on my new PC. Thank you paulip88 and fcm6 for your feedback.

I really prefer not to deal with a dual boot scenerio. From everything I'm reading it seems the best OS in the Windows world is Win2kPro.

My question very simply for those of you that play games, are you finding any problems running them using this OS?

btw: The games on my PC at the moment are; Red Alert 2, Asherons Call, Baldaurs Gate 2 and Diablo 2.

Of course I use my computer primarily for work which consists of Microsoft Office type progys primarily; but I enjoy gaming as a hobby.

Thank you very much in advance for your feedback.

It will be a little harder to set up, you have to make sure there are WIn2k drivers available for your game essential hardware, (3D card and Sound Card, joystick if you have one) then get them all installed on Win2k, most poeple actually report better framerates on Win2k for most games, but i dont think that will matter in the games you listed, with those games, you wont be able to notice any difference in gameplay or performance, excpet maybe they load faster from the HDD

I had a lot of problems with networked FPS games like TFC and Counter Strike over the net. For instance, I would be moving forward, just about to shoot my opponent and suddently I would be pointing downwards with my weapon selection screen up.. and then I would be killed.

Great.

Since you are not playing chaotic FPS type games, I am sure you will have no issues with Win2kPro. My girlfriend uses Win2k with Sims, Civ, and the like with no issues.

on my win2k box i run UT, Q3, HL, NFS5 all with no problems whatsoever (after i worked out driver/chipset issues).

and i can confirm that diablo 2 runs fine (i uninstalled it since i dont really like it).

It would be safe to say that most games in the future will be supported under Win2k with Microsoft pushing Whistler as their next OS, ending the line of win9x.

I found playing games under Win2K to be a little more stable than Win98.

For instance, my DSL line would randomly give in every so often when playing Everquest or UT and would crash Win98. But under Win2K, the line would start to go crazy (as evidenced by the solid activity light on my modem), then lock up but Win2K would reset the IP stack and the game would unlock and resume again without crashing.

I even play old DOS games (thanks Abandonware) in Win2K without any problems.

You will probably need 256MB of memory and lose a bit of performance but I don't see that much of a problem using Win2K.

The funny thing is when I try to use Microsoft's own Photodraw program under Win2K, it crashes.

Games played under Win2K:
Icewind Dale
Diablo II
Everquest
Unreal Tournament
The Sims
NFS Porsche

hi there ,
Win2K is the best Os >>Undoubtedly<<,And it gives a solid
gaming Experience if not the best ,But the Compatibility
Issue still remains in bleak,Futre games may be comptible
100% ,but some older games may not work EX: NFS4 HS etc..
So happy gaming!

the preformance of gaming under win2k does come down to the quaility of the video card drivers I have a original TNT card and win2k detected and installed the drivers for it during installation. NFS: PU wouldn't run, untill i updated to nvidia's reference drivers.
