win2k3 question with vit mem and defraging...

easy question, but im a newbie......i want to defrag the main drive...i changed the vitural mem setting, and its always hitting the hdd now. so i was going to turn this off, reboot and defrag the hdd and turn it back on. my question is if i turn it off, will it still work and enter windows? i dont want to screw anything up. i have 2gigs ram.
