Did a clean NTFS format and Win2000 install. Reboot, and get the DOS message Stage1 hard drive fail after the reboot.

What do I do next!

Help!

I've formated twice and installed the disk four times, all with the same error.

Yes. I converted the disk from FAT32 to NTFS.

It copied all it needeed to and then needed to re-boot.

At that point after it POSTED and went to load the OS I got the Stage1 drive failure error.

You do not need to run fdisk. Win2k will create/delete/format partitions during setup.

It did, and I let it format to NTFS..... but on reboot it hung. I tried leting it boot from the CD-ROM... and from the hard drive, both times it errored. If it goes from the CD, then all is does is reinstall the same files as before. It's a vicous cycle.

Couple of things:
#1) Clean off the partitions. Don't care how you do it, just do it. Worst case, I have an applet I can send you if its an IDE drive to burn off all partitions.

#2) Kill any overclocking and go with CONSERVATIVE memory settings in your bios.

#3) Are you using a highpoint / promise controller? Make sure you have the latest BIOS and drivers for those items.

I am over clocking, will throtle that back....

Settings: the bus speed is 90.5mhz
the memory speed is 60mhz.

Micron Crucial CAS-2 set to CAS-3

Everything us actually underclocked with the exception of the CPU, which was a Compuwiz 533a@800, running at 733.

It was fdisk. Had to go back and delete the partition and let Win2k set a new one.

Works like a charm now!

Thanks!
