Win2K Workgroup Sharing without Authentication?

I'm setting up a little Workgroup network for a small non-profit.

They have 4 Win2K machines.

After I set up the network everything seems fine except that it requires authentication user name and password from the machine they are trying to share files from.

This is a real pain for them becaue they have lots of volunteers using the computers
and I was wondering if there was a way to share among a workgroup without authenticating.

If there is one primary computer that they are all trying to access, you should be able to just setup accounts on that machine that match the accounts (and passwords) used to log on to the other computers. Then it should just let them through without any issues.

Tell us more about your setup. They're using a switch/router? There is no "server", i.e. its a peer to peer setup. Do the PCs have a Guest account enabled? What is being shared/accesed?

So here's the setup...
There are 4 computers ... 800 Mhz older stuff. Win2K on all of them.
Connected trough a Linksys Router that also is connected to a cable modem.
I set up a directory c:\Shared1, c:\Shared2, ... for each of the 4 computers. It is primarily .doc and .xls files
I set up the Shared# directories to be shared.
There is also a usb laster printer connected to one of the computers that I have shared.
I forgot about setting up the guest account...
I did try setting up the same username and password on the computers and that didn't make a difference.

You will have to do this on all the PCs. Log on as an administrator (also create user account(s) with limited rights) Admin Tools Computer Management, click on shares, enable sharing on the folders you want to share, then set permissions (Read/Modify..) as you would prefer first for Everyone, and only if necessary, enable the Guest account. Do not enable sharing on the entire C drive, only specific folders
