I have an old Dell System (Dimension L500c) celeron 500 and I took out the hard drive today because my sister's computer (another computer) was having problems and so I wanted to see if it was her hard drive, so i hooked up her hard drive to this Dell. Since it didn't seem to start when I hooked up my sister's hard drive, I tried to hook everything back up the way it was before I messed with it, and now when it boots up, it goes passed the Dell Splash screen, but right after that, there is just a black screen with a little white blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. It freezes in that state basically. The hard drive that is in right now is a Maxtor hard drive and I believe the jumper settings are set ok. I have it set on CSEL right now, but I tried switching it to master and I was still getting the same problem. I checked the memory and it looks like it's still plugged in, and I know the computer is detecting it because when I go to the BIOS it shows that all of it is there.

Anyone have any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated because I've tried several things, and nothing seems to work.

Thanks a lot,
Mike

ok...that's odd...I guess it was the jumper setting. I was looking at a manual for a newer maxtor hard drive that I have and I used that to set the jumpers. I guess I'm going to have to find an older manual.

Thanks anyways.

Mike
