Win2k woes

a while back, i had to reformat my hard drive and i only had access to win ME. i decided to dual-boot my system with win2k when i got my hands on it again(i have done before on my system) and i am having problems. the installation seems to go fine, but right when it is about to start for the first time in win2k(i.e the bar in the win2k splash screen is right to the end) the machine locks up. there is sporadic hard drive activity, but it never actually starts. i have done multiple reinstalls, tried every trick that i know, and i even took the hard drive to a friends house to try it on his machine. in safe mode it goes into windows but locks up at the point where windows explains what safe mode is in a little box. as i said, this computer has had win2k on it before, but i had a different sound card, vid card, and modem at that time. should i take everything out but the vid card and try it that way? i don't really mind doing that, but my case is a pain in the ass to work with, so i would prefer to fix it without opening it. if possible.

thanks for any ideas you might have!

First off is win ME or 2k on the active partition?
And Which did you install first?

Cause i have herd from some people that win2k is very picky and it needs to be installed first. I have not had experince with dual boot 2k/ME, but from what they have told me thats the best way to go.

i have win2k and winME sharing the same partition (i know, i know, but i didn't feel like backing up my data again and reformating). i installed winME first. the last time i dual booted, i did it off of the same partition, with win98SE on first and win2k second. that worked fine. mabe it is just winME showing another side of its crappiness.

yeah, but i would deff try different partitions, its much cleaner and maybe thats what is causing problems for you. just a though, i know it would be a pain in the ace.

have u tried any of the repair processes? 2k is pretty good about repairing itself. It's never failed me, though i've also never had this problem. It's worth a try though...

i treid the repair, but no go. i was hoping that would work, as it can usually fix problems like this, but it didn't work. i think i may just have to reformat and repartition.

thanks,
