win2k -> winxp networking woes

I have both computers set up on a network, both are sharing an internet connection through a router. both computers can "see" each other in the workgroup . Computer A is r4unning XP and B is running 2k. I havecreated a share folder on machine A. I have given write create and read access to the share folder. From B i can open mp3s located on the A machine via winamp. However I can't copy files located in A's share folder. it gives me "cannot copy xxx: access is denied. source file may be in use." what did i forget to do?

I am a networking noob as this is my first network. any help is greatly appreciated..

it seems i can copy AND move .doc, but not .exe files... wtf?

That means that the file is being used and you must disable the file. A simple check of thsi would be to try and rename the file on hte local machine. If the rename fails the program is open and it must be terminated before being accessed or moved. ctrl alt delte and terminate the tree

yes it does it for any .exe file. i can move word docs and mp3s, but i can't execute or move ANY .exe files. And no they are not in use, one is an install.exe so i know it's not in use.

This sounds like a security setting on the client computer, possibly in either the firewall or antivirus programs.

hmmm antivirus maybe... i've already tried with the firewall disabled. i'll try with AV disabled next.

weird thing is i can't play .wmv files from the client either.

well i tried with AV disabled on both machines... didn't work. however the AV on the client machine may need to be disabled in a different way. it's my girlfriends computer from home. her dad had a home network with several pc's. i think he had some kind of central AV administration, don't know never used Mcaffe myself. She seems to have rather limited options on her AV... this may be more of a PITA then it is worth. i guess i don't need to transfer .exe's that often.

thanks for everyones help anyway.
