Win2K & WinMe File Sharing

For some reason, WinMe is unable to access my Win2K computer. It says access denied before it even gives me a password prompt. I already set up an account on Win2K with the login name on the WinMe computer. In fact, this is the exact same set up I had on Win98 before I installed WinMe and it had worked... now it doesn't anymore.

Any ideas?

Hmm... strange, it seems to work now for some reason...

Oh well... another question... WinMe seems to be very, very slow when browsing the Network. Any ideas how to speed it up? I tried making the default protocol to NetBEUI (a suggestion in an earlier post) instead of TCP/IP and it doesn't make a difference... I still have to wait up to a minute each time I open a network resource for anything to appear.

Do you have the final store bought release or one of the cracked versions floating around? I have one of those cracked versions and it jusy isnt right. I think Micro$ft put out the betas with some problems in networking on purpose just to prevent people from not going to the store and buying the final retail when they could download it, hence the crappy networking with the beta releases. At least thats my opion I could be wrong.

I installed the final retail version... it's also installed on my friend's computer who's on the same network, but he doesn't have this problem for some reason.

nop, my winme is released version too, and it has no problem on networking at all. what is your winme version? mine is 3.90.3000.

As I said before, the final retail version - 4.90.3000

The problem isn't the file sharing anymore, it's that it takes forever to browse the network... it shouldn't be this slow.

Well I have a WinME box on a corporate network with 600+ computers in this node of the Network and it takes roughly 7-10secs to come up. I would say that's very fast considering so many computers. I would suggest trimming what's in your network settings.

Client for MS
NIC adapter
tcp/ip bound to adapter

That's it, the above three things should allow you to see the network. Additional protocals can sometimes slow you down. Also if that fails, reinstall all three components incase they are using Win98 files and you want all WinME files. Hope that works.
