OK I have a weird problem at home. My beloved cable modem died a thursday and I have been relying on dialup, now I was sharing my cable modem through my SMC 7004ABR router ( with backup modem dialup connection) , my external modem was working fine with the smc router the past few days.
Today I am waiting at home ALL DAY:| for the cable company to come out and check the lines. ( replacement cable modem didn't fix it) I don't want them so see me sharing my cable connection w/ my laptpop (paranoid) so I hooked up my external modem to my dektop. I kept getting connection errors to my dial-up ISP " PPP connection protocols couldn't be completed " or similar
when trouble shooting my hardware, the only error is with my WAN Miniport (IP) #2 ( don't ask where number one went) it says windows can't load the drivers for it, I try to uninstall it and it won't let me, I reinstall the drivers and it says reboot , when I do the same error pops up, couldn't load the drivers.
Now for the really weird part, I hooked up my phone line to my dell laptop w/ internal modem. I got the same error msg about PPP protocols with my ISP, and the wan miniport #2 can't load the drivers either,
it's worse on my laptop, as I can't connect to my router, the NIC shows as being connected but I can't ping anything, including the router, other than my self (127.0.0.1).
I don't know what to do here, I'm stumped!!
BTW i'm posting this from my desktop, with external modem connected to the router, still waiting for the damn cable guy to show up!
specs:
destop- D-link 530TX+ nic card, win2K SP2
laptop Dell inspiron 5000e linksys pcmpc100 nic card
router smc barricade 7004ABR
