any ideas why it isn't in the bottom right corner (forgot the name)?

i updated my abit kt7-r bios, reformatted, and reinstalled win2k and now it's missing.

Go to:
Control Panel - > Sound and Multimedia

somewhere near the bottom, there should be a checkbox "display volume control on the taskbar"

Eric

START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL -> SOUNDS AND MULTIMEDIA

check the box that says "Show volume control on the taskbar"

I had the same problem in win98 se, and there was no sound either. Still can't figure out the cause of the problem, but restarting is a temp resolution.
