Win2k USB problem with Epson scanner

Hi.

When trying to use my Epson Perfection 1240U (which is connected via USB) in any TWAIN-aware application, a message box states "Cannot open port", and Win2k locks up (even the mouse pointer). I have tried reinstalling drivers (even removing every reference to the scanner in INF-files and in the registry before reinstalling drivers), I have tried updating my drivers, but to no avail. Connecting the scanner to a different USB-port doesn't make any difference.

The weird thing is, my Creative Webcam (USB) still works, and the scanner used to work about two months ago. I haven't done any major hardware or software changes to the system (Asus A7M266 + Win2k SP2). Any ideas?

1) try removing your usb webcam...then installing scanner...they might be conflicting

2) try plugging scanner in *after* windows has booted up...instead of when computer is off (if you havent' already)

Welcome to the world of Epson and their USB scanners!
I have a Perfection 1200u and it does the same damn thing..wierd thing is it is all about WHEN i install more than what port im plugged into.
It seems that the drivers for these units bite under 2k, i installed it on my XP box..no probs.

Here are a few things to try.
Remove the Epson software if you installed, remove your webcam.
reboot - logon to windows then remove any webcam software..reboot again.

Once done, shut down and then when the machine is completely off, pkug the scanner in to a USB port.
Come back into windows and see if it recognizes the scanner...if it doesnt, dont even bother trying to call Epson, they ended up telling me it was a bad scanner, yet everytime i slap it on my XP box it detects, loads and runs 100%...go figure.
