I did a fresh install of win2k, i installed sp3 and all the other little patches and now it takes around a minute to shut it down.
It stays at the 'saving your settings' screen for a minute doing nothing, and then it finally shuts down.
Anything i should change, i guess i can start by uninstalling all the little patches but any suggestions are welcome :)

Try this

START -> RUN -> gpedit.msc

Administrative Templates -> System -> Logon

Maximuim number of times to unload and update profile ->set to "enabled"

Set the number of tries to zero

Win2K will shut down much faster now.

If you have recently encountered a slow shut down problem with your W2K system take heed. Uninstalling Windows security update Q329170 and Q328310 will most likely fix it.

Budman --- I've read this elsewhere & they said just the Hotfix update Q329170 needed to be removed . Also , I cannot find anything on the Windows Support site to concur with everyone about the removal . Just makes me a little jumpy deleting anything Widows related as I'm just trying to be careful here ;)

May I ask a link to where you got this information ?
So , it won't hurt anything by deleting these two files ? ............ as I don't even remember what the downloaded filed patched/fixed **LOL**

Thanks alot .

edit : I have both files mentioned above & also experienced the SLOW restart/shutdown afterwards ............

Do't be jumpy about removing a update, no big deal.

remove it, reboot.

Done!
