Win2K system locked by user

Quick question.

A friend has Win2K Pro on his machine and doesn't want it to keep locking the PC after 30 minutes, requiring him to log in again. (The message saying workstation has been locked by "user". Only "user" or administrator may unlock it")

I don't have a 2K machine setup at my house right now so I can't look at it to see where the setting is to stop it from doing that.

Can somebody tell me how to stop that from happening so I can tell him over the phone. Thanks.

Sounds like he has a screen saver set to come on after 30 minutes. Either that, or the machine goes into standby. If its the screensaver, have him uncheck the "Password protected" option. If the machine is going into standby, go to the power options and put all options on never.

Okay, I haven't had a chance to try these suggestions yet, because it is late and I can't call him now.

However, presuming that this is not the problem, because it was an upgrade from 95A and I don't think he would have had a password set, any other sugestions?

I am assuming that this is a WIN2K issue where it locks the desktop after "X" amount of time for security reasons, so others cannot use the system were it left unattended at work or something.

I'll check the screensaver thing tomorrow, but I doubt that there was a password set for that.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks.

NT only locks the machine if the screensaver is set to require a password (since it's NT and has real user security it uses the one you logged in with) or you explicitely tell it to lock, no other ways about it.
