win2k stop/registry error..

wonder if anybody can help me..
whenever i boot up my computer, when win2k is in the loading screen, it no longer starts up all the way and just goes to a blue screen and shuts back down.. here's the error message on the blue screen...

STOP: c0000218 {Registry Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\DEFAULT
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Beginning dump of physical memory..
yadda yadda yadda...

anybody have any suggestions to repair this?

i tried emergency repair but it didnt work..
i dont have any backup recovery disks so i'm not sure that i can use the Repair console.. anybody know for sure?
