Win2k: Start Menu does not work immediately after logon

The computer boots pretty quickly, but if try the Start button, it just doesn't work (no click). If I double click My Computer to get a browser window I can browse the contents of the folders, etc. After about a minute, the Start button works perfectly. A trick I found to make it work faster is to CTRL-ALT-DEL and open the task manager. It works normally after doing that, as if something was stuck and just opening the Task Manager makes everything run smoother.

Anybody w/ a similar problem (and hopefully a solution)?

I had the same problem when I had a shortcut to a mapped drive in my Quick Launch Bar and the Task/Start Menu was unusable till Win2K "Validated" the short cut. Removing the Link fixed the problem.
